City United - Annual General Meeting

Our AGM will be held Tuesday the 5th of July at the Tamworth City Bowling Club, commencing at 6.30pm. All City United players, and players parents are invited to attend.

Any nominations for positions on the new committee should be sent to Club Caretaker Secretary Cory Callcott at corycall@bigpond.net.au or on 0402 334 403.

City Youngsters In Rep Teams

Congratulations to the following players who have been chosen in Tamworth Junior rep sides next season.

Hamish Batley (U16), Tim Paynter & Ryan Hansen (U15) and Lachlan Cooke (U14).

This is fantastic news, especially the selection of leg spinner Lachlan Cooke who showed a lot of promise in his first year in senior cricket this season. That astute judge of cricket skills and ability, Simon Hood, reckons young Lachlan will go a long way with the right support and attention.

Well done to the four players. Work hard during the winter and then your name will be pixels next season on the City website.

Rod Pryor came the closest to picking up Lango's $5 on Saturday but again there was no winner. The three batsmen who have scored three centuries in a World Cup event are Mark Waugh (1995-96), Sourav Ganguly (2002-03) and Matt Hayden (2006-07).

The first Test century at the WACA was scored by Englishman, Brian Luckhurst, who made 131 in the first Test ever played there in the 1970-71 season. Later in the same Test Greg Chappell made his debut Test century (108) helped by Ian Redpath who made his highest Test score (171). John Edrich made 115 notout in the English second innings. TCBC regular John Gleeson captured 3-68 off 32 overs in the second innings bowling his finger spun leg breaks.

November Meeting

At the November meeting, the following matters were discussed and in some cases, decisions made.

• Claude pointed out that we have supplies of playing shirts and caps available. Anyone who needs these items should see him
• Exciting to see new sponsors coming on board in the area of targeted programs. Espresso Addami are sponsoring the pants of the first grade day/night strip and Monogram It the shirts. Additional sponsors are soon to be announced to cover the cost of the City dress shirts so that they will be free to players who have payed their fees in full . The first of these is Six Nines Imagery and the others will be announced within the week.
• Paul Fisher and Alison Callcott have done an excellent job in selecting the new club dress shirt and it was approved by the meeting
• President Terry Skewes praised the efforts of Chris Langston in running the club BBQ last Saturday night after breaking and dislocating his finger in first grade that afternoon and then spending a couple of hours at the A&E Dept of the hospital
• Phil Hood finalised the roster for putting and removing the covers at Riverside 1 during the Country Championships this week. If you are available, he could always use more helpers so ring Phil
• the meeting decided to form a "Future Committee" to look at setting some longer term goals for City United. Peter Langston, Claude Orenstein, Terry Skewes, Cory Callcott, Chris Langston and Richie O'Halloran were suggested as members of the committee. Everyone will have an input.
• as club members will be attending a BBQ at No.1 Oval on 11th December for the day/nighter, they are reminded to be a presence at the Tamworth City Bowling Club on the Friday night. We have a wonderfully supportive relationship which we all have a responsibility to protect.
• Captains will appoint someone to be responsible for handing our newsletters on the first day of each game. If you'd like the job, just tell the skipper.

Last Week's Newsletter Quiz

The reward lapsed last week when no one answered the question correctly. The last man to take a hatrick in Tests for England was Ryan Sidebottom, playing against New Zealand in March 2008. Steven Fleming, playing in his last Test, was the first man out.
