The draw for a dinner for two from the Quality Inn Powerhouse was made back at the South Tamworth Bowling Club, after the games against Norths.
There were 29 players in the draw - all the players who had completed paying their fees for the season by the Dec 19th deadline.
Literally drawn from a hat was Daniel Lawrence who will now make plans who to share his chicken and chips with. Good on you Dan and thanks to all players who have paid their fees and a reminder to those with funds still outstanding, get that money to Claude Orenstein as soon as possible.

Classic Classic Catches!
Okay, so this set of 35 classic catches from the Channel 9 commentary team is at least ten years out of date, but the snares are still good. For my money, the Dean Jones catch at cover point is the pick ... what do you think? Put your suggestions below by clicking on "Comments" and then in the week before Jan 9, I'll pick a top ten from your selections and we'll have a vote. There's a 30 second commercial at the start about Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist, "The New Guard" - like I said it's a little out of date. Happy watching.
Classic Catches
With the holidays coming up, it's time to remember that classic catches don't just happen on the Test arena. Sharpen up those reflexes!

Lango's First Book Is Published
Club Secretary Peter Langston is in print. His book of poetry "Six Nines", with its mix of stories about life, death, love, madness and cricket - all the really meaty things about life - has recently been published by Kardoorair Press.
If you've never read poetry, then start with this book. It lacks pretension and mystery. These are just the stories of your life told by someone else and experiences you should read about. Its not fancy words for the women to read over watercress sandwiches - big beefy men read this stuff.
For more information go to http://sixninespoetry.blogspot.com/ and wander about the website. You can listen to the interview with Lango on the ABC, read some samples of his poetry and even have Lango read some. There's also a biography to find out all the background goss on the lad.
There is even a PayPal link where you can buy online.
For walk-in purchases, go to Narnia or Angus & Robertson in Tamworth, 2nd Edition Bookshop in Gunnedah or Readers Companion, Dymocks or Angus & Roberston in Armidale. "Six Nines" is also available direct from Lango.

More News From McBatt
The CIS carnival has proven tough for Hamish Batley. He hasn't been able to get things going with the bat and a BBW (bat before wicket) decision by Umpire Woody didn't help. With the ball, he has had returns of 1-13 and 1-14, both times removing openers and the opposition's key batsman.
Having his bare foot trodden on by a team mate's spiked boot, puncturing his big toe nail, certainly hasn't helped.

Tamworth U/14s
Tamworth U/14s had a handsome win over Gunnedah recently. Batting first, Gunnedah scored 182, a pretty handy total in junior cricket. Tamworth passed them only two wickets down, mainly thanks to an opening partnership of 142 between City's own Ryan Hanson and James Psarakis. Ryan's contribution was 43, a career highest but at 13, there's lots of career to come.
Tamworth is now 4 for 4.
Well played Ryan!
(Thanks to Nikki Hanson for the info)

Who Said ...
"If there is a threat to the game of cricket, that threat lies in the first class arena. One day cricket, especially day-night cricket, is here to stay."

Still Found - A Missing Helmet
A boy's sized batting helmet was found at training a few weeks ago and is yet to be claimed. See Lango or any of the blokes running training to make a claim. Its navy blue, size M, with a grill and the chin strap set to a smaller sized head so no centuries have been scored in it YET.

How Australia Can Win Back The Ashes
It's often hard to make any sense out of how the media comments about cricket in Australia, so it was good to see this article in Australia's doyen of the free press, the Sydney Morning Herald. Here is, at last, is a common sense solution to Australia's cricketing woes. In fact, the secret to our continued success is so sensible and realistic, I'm surprised I hadn't thought of it. Read the article and tell me what you think.

Lost Property
Have you lost a batting helmet? Left it at training perhaps. If so, contact Claude Orenstein to seek reconciliation with your disregarded helmet. Luckily, even thought its feelings are justifiably hurt, helmet recover quickly.

The Tragics Quiz
Doug Walters, in Tamworth to direct a coaching clinic this week, was the first player to score a double and a single century in the same game – a feat achieved by only five others - but who is the only player to do so in his Test debut?
