Three parts to this question, each worth a point and I'll accept part answers.
1. Name the five players pictured in this touring side who during their careers captained Australia (name all five for the point);
2. Name the touring side (destination & season)
3. What was the controversy surrounding this touring side?

1. Benaud, Harvey, Jarman, Craig, Simpson
2. 1957-58 Tour of South Africa
3. Many thought that Neil Harvey should have been selected as captain over the younger and less experienced Ian Craig. Harvey missed out again twelve months later when Benaud got the job.
2 comments:
1. Ian Craig, Neil Harvey, Richie Benaud, Bob Simpson and Barry Jarman.
2. They where touring Africa(South Africa and Zimbabwe/Rhodesia(at the time) in 1957-58
3. My only guess as to controversy was that Ian Craig was the captain of this touring side, despite only having played a handful of tests at the time(if that), with more experienced players like the aforementioned captains in part 1, or even Ray Lindwall.
(That was all sourced from a book I've got called Captain Australia by Roland Perry) - I recommend it, if you haven't already read it.
Thanks Jack.
100% correct on the first and second parts of the question and so close that you earn the third point as well.
In reference to part three, there were question marks over Craig's captaincy as he was both so much younger and less experienced then both Benaud and particularly Harvey. Most thought Harvey would have been given the Captaincy and had it been a year later, he might have. Having lost the last three Ashes series, Bradman and Co were looking for young blood. So much for Bradman the ace selector!
It was from a dog-earned copy of Perry's book that the photo was scanned and yes, it is a good-un.
